Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have appointed recently retired wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik as their new batting coach and mentor. The franchise announced Karthik's “new avatar” in a social media post on Monday, July 1. Karthik announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in early June, saying he wanted to leave his playing days behind and focus on “new challenges ahead”.

RCB posted a video of Karthik on Instagram and wrote, “Welcome Dinesh Karthik, our wicketkeeper in every sense of the word, to RCB in a completely new avatar. DK will be the batting coach and mentor of the RCB men's team.”

Dinesh Karthik played 257 matches in the IPL and scored 4,842 runs at an average of 26.32. Apart from RCB, Karthik has also played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab.

“Coaching at the professional level is extremely exciting for me and it's a new chapter in my life that I'm really passionate about.
