The 42nd match of IPL 2024 was played between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which was very exciting. A mountain of runs was seen in the match held at Eden Gardens. In fact, for the first time in IPL history, all four openers have played fifty plus innings in a match. KKR, who came to bat first after losing the toss, got a strong start from Narine and Salt. Both of them made a century partnership for the first wicket. Narine and Salt added 138 runs for the first wicket, which is the highest opening partnership of the current season. This partnership broke on the second ball of the 11th over. Narine scored 71 runs in 32 balls. He hit 9 fours and 4 sixes. Salt scored 75 runs in 37 balls with the help of 6 fours and as many sixes.
While chasing the target, Bairstow and Prabhsimran gave an excellent start to Punjab. Both of them made a partnership of 93 runs for the first wicket. Prabhasimran returned to the pavilion after being run out on the last ball of the sixth over. He scored 54 runs in 20 balls with four fours and 5 sixes. Bairstow scored a stormy century. He faced 48 balls and scored 108 not out. He hit 8 fours and 9 sixes in his innings. Bairstow made a partnership of 83 runs for the third wicket with Shashanka Singh (68 not out from 28 balls) and helped Punjab cross the threshold of victory.
