Mitchell Starc, who was KKR's hero in the IPL 2024 playoffs, has hinted at ODI retirement to free up more schedule for franchise cricket. Speaking at the post-match press conference after winning the IPL, Starc said he would like to return to play in the tournament next year. The Australian fast bowler said he had prioritised Australia for the last 9 years of his life but now he wants a slight change as he is nearing the end of his career.

Mitchell Starc said in the press conference after winning the IPL 2024 title, “In the last 9 years I have given priority to Australian cricket and IPL has been a time of vacation for me and I relax my body and also spend some time with my wife. This has definitely been the approach for the last 9 years. But now maybe it's time to move on from this and I have to drop one of the formats. I think the next ODI World Cup is still a long way off and if I move away from it, the doors will open for me to play franchise cricket. I really enjoyed this season and now the T20 World Cup is about to come. Playing IPL before that has been very beneficial.”

He further added, “I don't know the schedule for next year exactly, but like I said, I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to coming back next time and hopefully it will be purple and gold again next year.”

Mitchell Starc was included in the team of Kolkata Knight Riders by spending a huge amount of Rs 24.75 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. Starc is not only the most expensive player of this season but also in the history of IPL. He participated in IPL for the first time this year after 2015. He certainly proved to be expensive at the beginning of the season, but in the end he paid his price.
