Many decisions of the umpires during IPL 2024 are under question. Another incident was added to this list on the night of Thursday, May 2 when the third umpire declared Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Travis Head not out despite being out. After this decision, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan became furious during the commentary and called it third class umpiring, while Kumar Sangakkara was seen having a heated argument with the umpire outside the boundary. This decision of the third umpire was truly shocking. However, Travis Head could not take advantage of this lease of life and was bowled on the very next ball.

What was the incident?
Avesh Khan, who came in the 15th over of Sunrisers Hyderabad's innings, bowled a wide yorker. While trying to hit the ball hard, Head lost his balance. Head could not hit the ball, but he definitely came out of the crease. Seeing Head standing outside the crease, Sanju Samson showed cleverness and made a straight throw on the wicket. When Rajasthan Royals appealed, the leg umpire referred the decision to the third umpire.

The third umpire found at first glance that the head had reached the crease before the ball hit and declared the Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman not out. However, it was later revealed that the angle from which the third umpire was watching the replay was just a trick of the eyes. Later, when the replay was shown again on TV from another angle, it was revealed that Head's bat was still in the air when the ball hit the wicket and he was out.
Irfan Pathan, who was commenting on this decision of the third umpire, appeared angry. Terming it as third class umpiring, he said that the third umpire should look at all the angles before giving the decision and only then should he give the decision. In the other angle there were two more frames until the bat reached the ground.

Sangakkara also clashed with the umpire
Rajasthan Royals players and support staff looked unhappy with this decision of the third umpire. After his decision, Kumar Sangakkara was seen arguing with the fourth umpire standing outside the boundary.
