Before the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab Kings have made a major change in the team. The franchise has announced that it has released former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer from its backroom staff. He was associated with the team as a batting consultant. Jaffer joined the Punjab team as the batting coach in the coaching team of head coach Travis Bayliss for the last season of the tournament.
Sanjay Bangar, who has been appointed Director of Cricket of Punjab Kings, will also play the role of the team's batting coach. Punjab Kings have severed ties with Wasim Jaffer, who was the team's batting coach last season. The complete schedule of IPL has not been released yet but like last season, Punjab team can play its last two home matches in Dharamshala. Punjab will play its other five home matches in Mohali.
Punjab Kings had made several changes in their support staff before the last season of IPL. He appointed Bayliss as his head coach in place of Anil Kumble. Punjab Kings team has consistently performed poorly in the IPL. They had only reached the final in 2014 and had reached the knockouts only once before, in 2008.
There is also good news for Punjab Kings that England batsman Jonny Bairstow will be available for the entire season of the Indian Premier League starting from March 22, despite recently returning home after a long Test tour of India. Captains Ben Stokes, Joe Root and Mark Wood, who play regularly in Test cricket, have already made it clear that they will not be available to play in the IPL.
